Episode 2: Solitary by Choice: The Impact of Single Living on Global Populations
Studies have shown men have access to fewer female dating partners due to women adopting higher dating standards. Could this be a factor in why key regions of the world are experiencing massive declines in population? What are the common denominators that have caused women (and some men) to shun dating candidates they perceive as non viable romantic partners?
Women in South Korea are avoiding relationships due to a harsh employment culture and strenuous marriage duties while women in China and Japan are steadily transitioning out of the childbearing stage into advanced age. Japan's Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida says “Our nation is on the cusp of whether it can maintain its societal functions.” For Japan, time is of the essence to correct the country's declining birth rate.
